Unlocking Efficiency: Creating NetSuite Custom Fields from Selected Customer Addresses

An Address Book is listed in the NetSuite custom field of List/Record type. However, the issue with this approach is that the entire address list is selectable for the custom field. NetSuite does not permit setting the 'Customer' field as a source filter for the custom field. Instead, you can use a method involving two custom fields to achieve this use case.


This tutorial will demonstrate how to restrict the address book list based on the entity field in the record.


We require an Address Book within the Project Record in this sample setup. It will be selectable through the Custom Entity Field, which is the proper field type since we are in the Project Record. The selectable addresses should be limited to those associated with the Customer (ID: parent) set in the Project Record.


To accomplish this, you will need two entity fields:

  1. A Custom Entity Field of List/Record type with Customer Record values

  2. A Custom Entity Field of List/Record type with Address Book Record values


Custom Entity Fields Set-up


I. Customer Field

  1. Go to Customization > Lists, Records & Fields > Entity Fields > New

  2. Follow the following field setup:


3. In the Sourcing and Filtering tab, add a filter:

II. Address Field


  1. Go to Customization > Lists, Records & Fields > Entity Fields > New

  2. Follow the following field setup:

Testing the Custom Fields


Create a new Project.

  1. Lists > Relationships > Project > New

  2. Populate the ‘Project Customer’ field

  3. When you select an address in the 'Project Address' field, you'll notice that the address list is now filtered based on the customer specified in the 'Project Customer' field.
