When developing in NetSuite, understanding how fields are referenced in the backend is crucial. This reference is known as the Field Internal ID and is vital for reading/writing data using SuiteScript or Web Services. There are various ways to view this information in the user interface.
Field Help Label in NetSuite Backend Fields
In the home page, go to Home Icon > Set Preferences
In the Set Preferences page, go to General tab and check the SHOW INTERNAL IDS
Save.
Go to any NetSuite records, the field name is clickable and a new window will appear.
For example in the transaction below, the label is ‘Order #’ clicking this field would expose a help window and the Field ID would indicate the actual internal ID
Adding Parameter to the NetSuite URL
In any NetSuite records, append a text string “&xml=T”
https://XXXXXX.app.netsuite.com/app/accounting/transactions/salesord.nl?id=20806275&xml=T
This would show an XML with all the field ID and values:
